Spittoons in bisque fired clay, salt solution, silicon bed. Exhibition at Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm.

The vessels are handthrown and measure between 30-50 cm in diameter, the shape is reminicent of spittoons used at sanatoriums for sputum and mucus, and also reminds of sacred cauldrons used in pre-christian ceremonies. Later a salt solution of saturated liquid containing dead sea salt and magnesium salt is poured into the vessel. After some time the vessels break from the crystallisation and slowly disintegrate.

The work explores decay or entropy that mirrors the natural processes of entropy and crystallisation as a creative force. The use of Dead Sea salt and magnesium salt might evoke ideas of healing or purification, given the therapeutic properties of these minerals, still they are the also the erosive and destructive force at play. The fact that these minerals are naturaly ocurring in a human body but that the concentration here seem to prush the delicate balance of body and nature is important to the work.
